My research focused on Social Media as a topic. Social media can be rather broad, as there are many different types of social media and facets on it considering it is primarily a user based system. I decided to focus on social media and its impact on mental health, which has become an especially prominent topic in modern day. In my research, I've found that social media can be actually helpful in some aspects, like improving social and emotional health, but still has a correlation to poor mental health, especially within adolescents. It's still debated if social media is specifically the cause of mental health issues for user, as some studies suggest it as an indicator of mental health issues opposed to a catalyst, but there is a connection between the two. Users that frequent social media have a higher chance of being exposed to suicidal ideation, cyberbullying, emotional apathy, and more. However, it is still a prominent part of many people's lives and seems to have no intention of leaving soon, especially post-pandemic.
For my game, I have the player playing as a live streamer, hoping to play a 2D platformer for their viewers. However, the player must juggle multiple stats to keep both them and their fans happy throughout their stream, lest they fall victim to crippling stress... or even worse... lose viewership?!
